| Artist's Note: The thatched cottage with magnificent English garden is situated one mile from the town of Stratford, in the hamlet of Shottery, U.K. Anne Hathaway was born here in 1556 and lived in it until she married 18- year old William Shakespeare in 1582. The cottage was owned by the Hathaway family until 1892 when it was bought, along with its furnishings, by The Birthplace Trust. Although referred to as a cottage it is a substantial, twelve-roomed Elizabethan farmhouse, which has changed very little since Anne Hathaway’s time.
