Artist's Note: In my grandmother's time, 1800s in Devonshire, England, gypsies came to the door to sell all kinds of crafts. It was believed bad luck would come to a person who did not buy something from a gypsy. They lived in the open countryside in caravans, wore colorful clothes, and seemed friendly and kind. But every person in those days avoided upsetting any of them because a gypsy's curse was to be feared. I never met any of them. But my friend Molly loved their lifestyle and the colorful dresses worn by the women and told her mother she would like to join them in their love of freedom to enjoy the simple things of life. Many Devon farmers gave them space for their caravan and food and water for their family and animals, and in turn the farmers were blessed with good weather and bountiful crops. "...freely ye have received, freely give." Matthew 10: 8
