Artist's Note: All the cats shown in the painting were rescued from the streets of NewYork City through kindness. Each animal can tell us their own story if we just listen, watch and open our hearts. Charles Frederick has always conducted himself with dignity and assurance and thus was given a name to fit his manner. Charles Frederick is the ginger cat. Lydia with her little grey dress is a Victorian lady with her neatness and quiet manner. William has a sailor’s rolling walk and cheerful disposition, hence he was named for King William IV, Sailor Billy. William is the tiger. Pleasance has a most agreeable disposition and this is a family name that sums her up. Pleasance is the white kitten. Thomas was found in the snow when he was five weeks old. Thomas has great imagination and thus was named for Thomas Otway, the Restoration dramatist, who had black hair. Gini Otway
